Samsung LCD TVs - Tales from the Crypt

The Best Buy Repair technician after changing a few internal motherboards advised that the panel itself had gone bad and cannot be repaired. Unfortunately I did not buy an extended warranty from Best Buy. I also called Samsung Executive customer relations and they refused to take ownership of the problem saying "Tough luck" you are S.O.L. without warranty. Basically, Samsung sold me a lemon.

I am now looking at a $2800 paper weight in my living room when I look at my Samsung TV everyday.

My advice to anyone considering Samsung is to stay away, as the company does not stand by its product even for widespread product quality issues. Stick with your trusted brands! Samsung is no Sony!
I may be looking to do something similar if I get no respolution from Samsung soon!

Correct!

I have the same problem with my LE22A656 TV

Also, the tuner is not all that great, and most important, the viewing angle is crap. So crap that everytime you lower your head just a little bit, the image gets all too dim and unwatchable. Samsung however says this model has 178 degrees of vertical viewing angle. FraudstersEven their "picture enhance" technology is a fraud. There is NO sophisticated processor behind, as they claim. The "picture enchancher" just makes the dark parts of the picture darker and pumps up the blue and red, to give you a more "impressive" picture and the illusion of a higher constrast. But makes the picture look really really weird.

The sole purpose of this "enchancer" is to con you into buying the TV, by looking at the store and thinking it's better that the others. After a while, your eyes will start to hurt, so you will have to switch to "movie" (the normal) mode, and then you will realise the brightness and constrast is actually inferior that other TVs. Frausters

After just 2 years of very moderate use my beautiful 65" LCD Samsung got black screen.ModelLNT5265F.
We sent it to the service and the new part will cost $1700, that's half what we paid for the TV. It really is more economical to just buy a new one at this point, I called and ask if Samsung is willing to sell a part at some promotional price, but they are only interested in selling new TVs or extended warranties for $880 a year. To makes the matter worst they have the audacity to say they support environmental issues by lowering a human footprint

What a joke if we will be throwing away 40”+ TV to the landfill every 2 years, each person in only just 60 years of life will dispose of 30 PC of that junk.

I am also falling in love with the brand.
They sold me an air conditioning that, so far in 90 days, does not work more than one month consecutively and they don't want to replace it.

I agree- Samsung does suck. I have owned a Samsung phone and a Samsung camcorder. The CCD on both broke after a few months of use, though the phone's camera is still usually workable- the camcorder is shot. The LCD screens developed 'faded' areas- again on both. The phone freezes constantly, starting about one month after I got it, and the charger won't work because the port on the phone has broken off by itself.

Samsung's so-called 'Voice Enhancer' technology just serves to make calls the same inaudibly low volume as its music player, which also happens to be mislabeled as 'Media Player'- the 'Music' option in the phone's menu leads to a paid music service that you get charged data fees just for entering.

I don't think this problem is with all Korean products. I have an old LG MP3 player (128 MB, that's how old it is), and it works just fine. This is an issue endemic to Samsung products and it must be fixed.

I will say, however, that at least the earbuds bundled with the phone work like a charm, and with decent sound quality, too. They're now the set I use whenever an evil manufacturer decides to use a 2.5 mm headset jack.

I own a stove, microwave, refrigerator, and blu-ray player from Samsuck.
The stove died first. It was one of those touch panel control deals. Well some buttons didn't work out of the box! So we got the retailer to swap it out, 2nd one worked for a little bit then buttons started to die. Had it repaired by Samsung...twice. When time had come for them to replace the button assembly again they said no. They've fixed it too many times in the warranty period and are just going to refund us the cost of the stove. A bunch of "we never got it" bs later I finally got a check for the stove. By the way the adhesive holding the buttons to the glass face plate is worthless. It comes apart from the heat produced by the burners right under it. Take that bad boy apart and replace the adhesive with something worth a damn and it works just fine!
The blu-ray player was always a little choppy on the blu-ray playback but I got it for the Netflix so I looked past that. Well until the new firmware for the device came out and Netflix stopped working. Turns out this is a pretty common problem for this model. Seems to be the firmware is incompatible with this out of production model player (oops). So I call Samsuck update firmware from network, usb, and disc. Oh well guess it's the player now here's the thing warranty covers 1yr parts & 90 days labor. So any parts that need replaced beyond 90 days of purchase will incur a labor charge. Well I got that BS sorted out right away and got my warranty extended to cover everything since it was an issue with Samsucks crappy firmware. Got the label shipped it off got the thing back and all the service center did was update the firmware. It still doesn't work. Waited till monday and called. I have to send this stupid thing back again! Because I can't get a refund it's against policy. But what about my oven, it wasn't against policy to give me a refund on that. In fact Samsung insisted they tried to dodge it saying lost paperwork yadda yadda but in the end I got a check. Will I have to send this blu-ray in for servicing 5 more times as well before I see a refund?
The microwave turntable motor won't turn any more. The door handle was the first to break on it but it seems everyone's door handle broke on that model. It's successor was recalled for a frame screw touching internal circuitry and shocking people. All appliances were purchased about 2 years ago. I just hope my fridge doesn't die.
Samsung America corporate offices number is 1-972-761-7000
They won't give you that number if you ask customer support for it. They'll tell you it's a write in only thing but in fact there are two guys that work there that handle customer complaints.
You can direct your complaints to
Greg Ext:4825 and Russell Ext:4802

I purchased 42 inch Plasma TV of brand Samsung model PS42A4501MXL(s/n 07903ZES00073-Image copy enclosed) from Home Town , Noida on 27th April 2009( Cash memo copy enclosed).

1) After a day of purchase of the plasma I noticed a defect in picture display and contacted Samsung customer case. A complaint was filed and about a month later the plasma TV was replaced with a new one. I was told by the engineer that this particular model was unsuccessful and Samsung has discontinued it.
2) About 2 months after the replacement happened I noticed a vertical line on the left hand corner on the plasma display. I promptly called Samsung customer care and filed my complaint. On follow up I was told that such small aberrations are normal for the 42 inch display and it just has to be ignored. Since the line was on the left most corner and not hindering the view in any way I kept ignoring it.
3) In April 2010 I noticed that another vertical line had appeared on the display on the left half slightly aside the first vertical line. I called Samsung again filed the complaint. I received no response from Samsung and had to call the customer care repeatedly to get an engineer to visit and inspect the TV.

4) Finally an engineer visited in June 2010 and declared that the plasma display screen has gone bad. The engineer also informed me that the replacement plasma itself would have been defective and the customer care misled me into ignoring the defect.

5) Since the plasma was in warranty at the time the display started to deteriorate I filed a requested Samsung customer care to honor their commitments towards warranty and replace the unit. More and more vertical lines started appearing. By September first week there were about 8 vertical lined all over the screen.

6) My ordeal with the dishonest Samsung customer-care started at this point. I had to call almost daily to inquire about the status of replacements.

Following is the list of calls made to Samsung customer care
05April2010 Customer Care 1800110011
15April2010 Customer Care 1800110011
22July2010 Service Center Mr. Kishore 9910014646
Mr Vijay 9810998432
Mr Fazil 9560786614
09Aug2010 Customer Care Mr. Ashish Srivastava 1800110011
Ms. Sonali Thakre (Mgr customer care) (She promised that a replacement case was filed and the service center was instructed to replace the unit. She said she had written an email to service center with the instructions to replace.)
12Aug2010 Customer Care Ms. Shipra Nagpal
24Aug2010 Customer Care Mr. Shantanu Vadera
26Aug2010 Customer Care Mr. Harish
30Aug2010 Customer Care Mr. Deepak Dahal
13Sep2010 Customer Care Mr. Arnab Bose Manager Customer Care
Mr. Bose informed me that the case has been taken up for replacement of the plasma TV unit with a brand new one
7) In October first week the entire plasma screen went dead. We could only hear audio and the screen was blank.

It is very disappointing after having spent a huge sum on the purchase; the TV has gone bad immediately after purchase and I was misled by Samsung customer care to ignore the blemish. This is not first time I have found the Samsung product failing too soon. I had purchased DVD Writers for my PC and successively two of the DVD writers failed in a short span of less than an year. This proves that the Samsung products are unreliable and the customer is trapped to go for expensive repair or trash the product. In this case of Plasma TV which being a very expensive product, Samsung must replace the defective TV and honor the warranty. Samsung is aware of the dwindling consumer rights prevalent in India and they take full advantage of this weakness. I am severely depressed due to this and feel betrayed and cheated.
I advise strongly against buying any samsung products and certainly not any samsung plasma TVs.

Samsung Sells Defective Plasma in India

Samsung quality is beyond crap. My two year old 46` tv just said poff this morning and went all dead. Not that it´s been any good or anything, the picture was when it worked crap and the sound was just pathetic. It came with an free dvd player and that dvd must have been the worse piece of junk on the market. I used it once and then throw it in the closed. I then gave it away to my brother and after two weeks the dvd was broken. My Samsung cellphone worked for 5 months then it too broke down. Never ever again will i have anything with the name Samsung in my house. Their quality is just zero on everything they make.

I had my first (and last) contact with Samsucks about a month or so ago. I needed a new DVD drive for my Mac. I ordered one from Amazon and was excited when it arrived. I mean, it was Samsung so it should be top of the line right? Wrong. Although my computer fit the requirements stated on the packaging, when I plugged it in all I got was an open disc image icon with an ico file inside of it. I emailed customer support through their website which has you choose the product you need help with. All I got back was an email saying that I needed to call because no techs affiliated with the website were trained in the product. WTF?? Fortunately the company that sold it to me through Amazon allowed me to mail it back for a refund although I lost $12 as that is how much it cost me to ship it. I'll NEVER use a Samsung product ever again.

I have a samsung pico projector and the LCD in that one went (white spots everywhere) after about 20 hours of use, which because of limited use was 14 months. Exact same thing from samsung...No warranty, your SOL.

Samsung does not stand behind their product. I have a Samsung HLT6756W and am having the same "white dot" problem as many others.

I spent hours with Samsung chat representatives (ticket number 5103215558) and was, finally, assured Samsung would step up and replace the bad chip at their expense. But then Samsung reneged on their promise. Samsung claimed that while Samsung is aware of the white dot issue, there is no record of my particular Samsung DLP TV, HLT6756W, having any white dot issues. Well, I’m not OK with this. Samsung needs to step up and do the right thing, i.e., replace the bad chip at their expense, just as they originally promised.

For me, it’s not just about the money involved to fix the problem; it’s the principle. Samsung is aware of the white dot issue and to lamely relinquish responsibility like they have is deplorable. So I registered a domain name, samsungsrvicesucks.com, and unless Samsung steps and makes this wrong right, I will do my part to spread the word that they are not a trustworthy company to do business with.

Samsungsrvicesucks.com will include hyperlinks to all users with same white dot problem, along with an online petition. If support is significant, perhaps a class action lawsuit can get launched.

If we allow companies to behave badly, they will continue to do just that, behave badly. Samsung needs to be held accountable.
